'Leave PM power transfer issue for PH Presidential Council to decide'

GEORGE TOWN: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya has urged all Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders to let the ruling coalition’s Presidential Council decide on the power transition for the post of Prime Minister.

Marzuki, who is also Deputy Foreign Minister, also called on PH leaders to avoid speculating on the issue, as it would invite ‘more reactions’ on the planned power transition from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The PH Presidential Council, he said, is headed by leaders of political parties in the ruling coalition – hence, PH members should respect any decision made on the issue.

"Even the decision to make Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad our Prime Minister was made by the (PH) Presidential Council.

"Let us leave the power succession plan to the Council, so that it can be done in a good manner, without pressure from any party," Marzuki told reporters at the Chinese New Year open house celebration at Setia SPICE Convention Centre here, today.

Recently, Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman lambasted PH leaders for pressuring Dr Mahathir to step down and make way for Anwar.

Anwar himself, on many occasions, has also urged PH members to stop raising the issue of a power-transfer timeline.
