Muhyiddin urges candidates, members to adhere to regulations in historic inaugural Bersatu polls

KUALA LUMPUR: Aspiring candidates and eligible voters in the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) inaugural election have been urged to toe the line in ensuring a just, orderly and smooth process in the party polls.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the branch-level party election between today and March 29, and divisional-level election on April 18, were historic periods for the party.

“I would like to advise all contesting candidates and party members who are eligible to vote to adhere party regulations.

“This is to ensure that the party election process can be carried out in a just, smooth and orderly manner.

“Provide your fullest cooperation to the Party Election Committee, which has been appointed to manage the election process for the party.

“It is the responsibility of all us to ensure that the party polls can be carried out under ‘muhibbah’ (goodwill) and democratic environment,” said Muhyiddin in a statement today.

The Home Minister said the party election was a platform for members to fulfil their responsibility by voting candidates who they deemed were qualified to lead at all levels in Bersatu.

“Carry out your responsibility to the best of your ability by placing the interest of the party as priority,” he said.

Bersatu Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar had previously said the party polls would include the election for posts at all levels of its Srikandi and Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) wings.

The party is also holding its election for committees at branch, division and Supreme Leadership Council-level, including Srikandi and Armada wings for the first time.

Syed Hamid had also said that the branches will elect office bearers at their respective branch and division committees. Each branch meeting must be preceeded by its respective Srikandi and Armada branch meetings.

The division meetings will elect members of Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council, who represent the party’s leadership at national-level.

Syed Hamid had also said that the Srikandi and Armada divisions must convene prior to their main divisional meetings. The Srikandi and Armada divisions will also elect the Srikandi and Armada office bearers at national-level.
