Gerakan supports Dr M

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia supports Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue his premiership for the sake of the country's stability and security.

In a statement today, its president, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said the party was in full support of the Interim Prime Minister being re-appointed to ensure political, economic and welfare of the people will not be jeopardised.

"Having considered the current political turmoil and its impact on the country, we urge for an immediate rectification and restoration of political stability in the country. This has been among the main principles the party has prioritised all this while," he said stating the party's undivided support for the Langkawi member of parliament.

“The country needs to be led, government administration should not be stopped. It will have a huge impact on the country's economy.

"Based on the latest information we obtained yesterday, it was obvious that the performance of the stocks in the stock market were affected by the political turmoil in the country.

"It is important for the government to address this in due time to avoid further disruption to the share market's growth," he said.

He also brought to attention that the country has also experienced the wrath of the Covid-19 pandemic and many sectors that have been affected by it were depending on the government's stimulus packages to stay afloat.

"In fact, many traders and people are looking forward to the government's promised economic stimulus package to sustain and reduce the losses, caused by the pandemic viral outbreak. Thus Dr Mahathir needs to urgently form the government so that the administration of the

country could proceed as usual," Lau said.

Lau also said that he was impressed that these past two days have not been chaotic and things were under control despite the ongoing political uncertainty in the country.

He hoped that the Police will continue to render the necessary security to all relevant parties and uphold the peace and harmony, until the crisis has a permanent solution.

"With the support Dr Mahathir has, we hope he would quickly form the coalition needed for a unity government to help stabilise the present situation, until the next general election."
