Four Selangor Bersatu reps meet Dr M, pledge support for PH

PUTRAJAYA: Four Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) state assemblymen have decided to remain with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state.

The support comes after a decision by the state government to boot out Bersatu members from all administrative roles, including as village heads.

The four are Kuang assemblyman Sallehudin Amiruddin; Harumaini Omar (Batang Kali); Mohd Shaid Rosli (Jeram), and Adhif Syan Abdullah (Dengkil).

All four of the Bersatu representatives had discussed with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, without Selangor Bersatu chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, who is also the party’s vice president.

There are at least five Bersatu state assemblymen in the state, as Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman and former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali have yet to make clear of his status as an independent or a Bersatu member.

“We had asked for his (Dr M's) views on the status of Bersatu assemblymen in the state and from our discussion, four of us continue to support the PH state government,” Sallehudin told reporters at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here, today.

Asked on Rashid’s absence, Sallehudin said the state chairman could not be contacted to discuss the matter.

He said they then decided on this move as there was no directive or stand in the state following the recent political development in the federal government.

Sallehudin said their status as party members would be determined after a meeting with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari tomorrow (March 6), adding that it was up to PH leaders to evaluate their loyalty.

Meanwhile, Shaid said all four assemblymen remained committed as Bersatu members and have no intentions of becoming independents.

“In our meeting with Dr Mahathir, he had asked us to make a decision.

“We still value the mandate given by the people on May 9. Therefore, we hold to the principle to remain with PH.”
