Pahang MB, 10 exco's term extended

KUANTAN: The Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah, has consented to extend the two-year term limit imposed on the post of Pahang Menteri Besar and state executive councillors.

Comptroller of the Royal Household for the Sultan of Pahang, Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman, in a statement, said Tengku Hassanal had agreed for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and 10 state executive councillors to serve until the state assembly be dissolved.

"The Regent congratulates the Menteri Besar and state executive councillors over the extension and hoped that they remain committed towards serving the people in Pahang.

"Due to the new normal caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Regent hopes that the Menteri Besar and state executive councillors will continue to ensure the welfare and well-being of the rakyat is not being sidelined. They should continuously work towards uplifting the Pahang economy," he said.

Ahmad Khirrizal said the Regent would continue praying for the people in Pahang to remain in good health and for God to spare the state from any infectious disease, disaster and misfortune.

The two-year term for Wan Rosdy along with eight state executive councillors namely Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin, Datuk Seri Shahaniza Samsuddin, Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad, Datuk Noorul Azali Sulaiman, Datuk Seri Johari Hussain, Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff, Datuk Nazri Ngah and Abd Rahim Muda ends today (May 14). The swearing-in ceremony took place on May 15, 2018.

Two other state executive councillors - Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak and Datuk Abd Aziz Mat Kiram, who were sworn in two years ago on June 4, will end their term on June 4 this year.

After the 14th General Election, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who was then the Pahang Regent, had put in place a term limit on the post of Menteri Besar and state executive councillors.

It was the first time such a practice was carried out and the two-year limit was done at the discretion of Al-Sultan Abdullah when Wan Rosdy was sworn in as the 14th Pahang Menteri Besar at Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan along with eight others state executive councillors.

It was previously reported that Al-Sultan Abdullah said the move was to review the performance of Wan Rosdy and the state executive councillors at the end of their two-year limit.
