Perikatan welcomes other political parties, individual members to join

SLIM RIVER: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has welcomed political parties and individual members to be part of the outfit, its information chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali said.

There are some quarters who had expressed desired to join the PN, he said.

"We are very open in this matter. So far there are only five components (parties) who had agreed to join the coalition" he said without divulging which other party had applied to join the coalition, which is presently populated by Barisan Nasional and Pas.

Azmin who is the Senior International Trade and Industry minister said this after visiting the media centre for Slim by-election at KY Convention Hall here today.

Also present were the newly elected Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu who is the Perak Menteri Besar and Communications and Multimedia minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said that the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is also Bersatu president was expected to make an announcement on the status of PN soon.

"The prime minister will make an announcement on the outcome of the application to RoS soon.

"We are open (for others to join the party) because we have the same mission which is to ensure that the PN government is stable because stability can guarantee the country's economy and people's well-being," he said.

On Aug 10, PN officially submitted its application to become a legal entity to the RoS. Then Bersatu vice president Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari revealed that the application of the coalition to be formally registered was submitted to the RoS early last month.

PN is now the federal government of the day as well as leading several state governments.

In the Dewan Rakyat, it currently controls 113 seats out of the 222 strong lower house of Parliament, comprising Bersatu (31); Pas (18); BN (43); Gabungan Parti Sawarak (18) as well as Parti Bersatu Sabah and Parti Solidarity Tanah Airku having a sole seat each and an independent federal law maker.

PN also controls the Dewan Negara, which sees the coalition represented by 42 senators in the 70 strong upper house of Parliament.
