'Move for vote of confidence motion in Johor MB'

KUALA LUMPUR: Simpang Jeram assemblyman Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub will call on Umno to move a vote of confidence in the leadership of Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad on the last day of the Johor state assembly meeting tomorrow.

Salahuddin, who is also Amanah deputy president, said the move is crucial to affirm that the present state government is strong and can continue to govern the state.

"This motion will prove the legitimacy of the support by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) representatives towards the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition in Johor," he said in a statement today.

Salahuddin said it is vital for the people to know that the government that exists today, be it at the federal or state level, is legitimate.

"With the latest developments in the country's politics, especially in Parliament and recently during Perak legislative assembly, I believe the issue of legitimacy has become a concern to the people," he said.

Yesterday, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu failed to obtain majority support of the state assemblymen in a vote of confidence motion during the state assembly sitting.

The Chenderiang assemblyman received votes of support from 10 assemblymen, with 48 others voting against him, and one abstaining.

The motion was moved by Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Datuk Abd Manap Hashim of Barisan Nasional (BN).

Tomorrow is the last day of the Johor state assembly meeting, with Hasni, who is also the state Umno liaison committee chief, expected to wind up the debate on the Johor Budget 2021.

There are 56 state seats in Johor, with PN having 29 seats and the opposition 27 seats.

For PN, the seats are from Umno (14), Bersatu (12), MIC (two), and Pas (one), while the opposition is from DAP (14), Amanah (nine), and PKR (four).
