Perak assembly to convene without sitting MB, first time in history

IPOH: The Perak state assembly will convene without a sitting menteri besar today for the first time in its history, following the ouster of Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the state's top executive last week.

Perak State Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the assembly would be held as decided earlier.

"The sitting is scheduled to begin at 2.30pm today but it will only approve the motion for the state assembly sitting to be postponed to another date," he said.

It is required that a menteri besar and at least four state exco executive councillors (excos) be appointed before a full assembly sitting can resume.

Mohamad Zahir said the adjournment of the state assembly sitting would be done under the Perak State Assembly Standing Order 80.

Initially, the sitting was to be held between Dec 4 until Dec 11.

However, it was adjourned on Friday after Ahmad Faizal lost a motion of confidence to lead as the Perak menteri besar.

The Chenderiang assemblyman received 10 votes in favour, while 48 voted against him and one abstained.

A day later, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president submitted his letter of resignation to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

Ahmad Faizal also announced that the state excos had all stepped down from their respective positions.
