Pas confident Malays in Kelantan will reject DAP

KOTA BARU: Pas is confident that a majority of Malay voters in Kelantan will reject a DAP candidate should they decide to contest in the state in the 15th General Election (GE15).

State Pas Liaison secretary Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said the Islamist party also believes that Muslims in Kelantan would not allow the DAP to take root in the state.

"Kelantan Pas is quite confident that Malays in the state not only will reject DAP candidates but also other party members and leaders.

"Locals especially Malays in the state will not allow DAP to extend its influence here," he said in a statement.

Che Abdullah who is the Tumpat MP said Pas will also ensure that DAP candidates will lose their respective deposits in the event their candidates choose to contest in Kelantan.

"As a democratic country, we cannot stop DAP from contesting in Kelantan but the Malay people can prevent them from achieving victory by rejecting their candidates," he added.

Che Abdullah said Pas believes that Kelantan Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) was also in cahoots with the DAP by helping it to make inroads in the state as well as position its candidates in Kelantan to contest in GE15.

"This can be seen from Amanah's assistance to DAP in the opening of the party's new branches in Kelantan in recent years to the extent that DAP can organise its first convention here yesterday," he said.

Che Abdullah was commenting on a report yesterday that DAP is planning to contest in Kelantan in the coming GE15.

National DAP treasurer Fong Kui Lun was reported to have said that the decision was made following the success in organising the first state convention in Kelantan.

Speaking after launching the convention in Kota Baru yesterday, Fong who is also Bukit Bintang MP, added the DAP central committee would discuss the matter with its state representative before deciding om the next course of action.
