Continuity crucial for state development, says Minister

GEDONG: Continuity in the government is crucial to ensure development for the people in Sarawak.

As such, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women vice-chief Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the people of Sarawak should support and give Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) a strong mandate so it could continue leading the state.

"We carried out our 2016 manifesto, and this is the chance for us to see the new manifesto that will come out on Dec 8.

"The new manifesto should be a guide for us to see the development plans and everything that Sarawak needs to move forward.

"We must be responsible for the manifesto, by supporting GPS to lead the government again, subsequently getting what we have been wanting for so long.

"Let us support those who will lead our state and continue with development through this election," she said when met after the Gedong state seat nomination process.

The Batang Sadong MP came to show her support for GPS chairman and caretaker chief minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, who will be contesting the Gedong state seat against Mohamad Sofian Fariz Sharbini from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Kamal Bujang from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Tomson Ango from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).

Gedong is one of the state seats under the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency.

Meanwhile, Nancy said voters in Gedong should consider themselves lucky after Abang Johari was given the go-ahead by Datuk Naroden Majais to stand in the rural seat.

"This should be a motivation for all of us, as according to our tradition, all former chief ministers have contested in the rural areas.

"(And) this, will speed up the development here, in line with politics in Sarawak that focuses on politics of development.

"We understand our situation better, where we still have a lot to develop throughout the state.

"So for that reason, I think it would be better if the people in Gedong support the (caretaker) chief minister to win big.

"We have done a lot of planning, and InsyaAllah (God willing) Gedong will be a very developed area, as the (caretaker) chief minister himself will be a decision-maker here and in entire Sarawak."

Nancy said she hoped voters will not think about anything else while casting their ballots.

"We are considered lucky, as we have the option to develop Gedong and subsequently Sarawak.

"Give a strong mandate to the (caretaker) chief minister (Abang Johari)," she said.
