More Penang DAP leaders set to join Warisan, says Jeff Ooi [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: More Penang DAP leaders are expected to join Parti Warisan in the near future.

Speaking at his inaugural press conference, Penang Warisan coordinator Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun confirmed that more state DAP leaders would join former Batu Lanchang assemblyman Datuk Danny Law Heng Kiang and former chief of staff at Penang DAP headquarters Martin Lim in the Sabah-based party here.

Ooi, however, said he was not at liberty to reveal the identities of those joining Warisan.

"It started with Danny and me, and all I can say is that more will follow suit. More Martins, Dannys and Jeffs will appear for sure.

"We will have more political and corporate figures joining our fray, as well as the young and professional," he said.

Present were Law and Lim.

Meanwhile, Ooi said to ensure Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal becomes the next prime minister, the party would need to win as many seats as possible in the 15th General Election.

"So all seats are important to us, whether at the state or parliamentary level.

"We are looking at a two-prong strategy. Not one seat, whether state or parliament will be forsaken.

"We will go all out," he added, hinting that Penang Warisan would contest in all seats in the coming election.

Ooi said Penang Warisan was willing to work with any partners as long as they share the same principles and ideals.

He added that, for now, they were working closely with Muda.

"As set by the party president, we will have at least 50 per cent of our members and supporters from the young people, particularly those aged below 40, who are filled with energy and zeal.

"We are looking for partners. As long as they share our ideals and principles, we are willing to work together.

"But to return to working together with Pakatan Harapan, that will be a difficult thing to do.

"As it is, both me and Law, are no longer given the space and opportunity to contribute to our former party," he added.

On why he opted for Warisan, Ooi said looking at the current political scenario and the uncertainties at the federal level, especially three changes at the federal level in one parliament term, a change was warranted.

It was reported that three prominent former DAP politicians announced joining Warisan, which recently spread its wings to the peninsula.

Besides Ooi and Law, Selangor state assemblyman Bryan Lai became Warisan's first elected representative in the peninsula.
