Six states unlikely to dissolve state assembly for GE15

SEREMBAN: Six states nationwide are unlikely to dissolve their respective State Legislative Assemblies in the event the 15th General Election (GE-15) is held in the near future.

Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the matter was discussed with the leaders of five other states when they attended the Conference of Rulers meeting in the federal capital, recently.

Declining to reveal the states, he said each agreed to dissolve their respective state assembly once their term ended.

"I have discussed with several states, six states including Negri Sembilan during the Conference of Rulers Meeting.

"The six states said maybe they will not (dissolve the state assembly) until the end of the term, I can't reveal which states," he said.

Aminuddin, who is also the Negri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman said this to reporters after chairing the state Level Anti-Drug Action Council Meeting, here, today.

Replying to a question, he did not rule out the possibility that among the six states involved would likely include Selangor and Penang which are administered by PH apart from Negri Sembilan.

He said the request to hold GE15 only comes from the Barisan Nasional (BN).

"Only BN asked for (GE15), others did not ask, and in BN some asked and some did not.

"I will not dissolve (the state assembly) until the end of the term," he said.

Currently, there are three states administered by PH, namely Negri Sembilan, Penang and Selangor while Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu are administered by PAS.

The dissolution of Parliament to make way for the GE15 is likely to be one of the main issues that will be debated by delegates at the Umno General Meeting which will kick off starting tomorrow.

Following BN's win in Melaka and Johor State Elections, there was a demand from coalition leaders for GE15 to be held immediately.
