Annuar: Parliament not likely to be dissolved tomorrow morning

KUALA LUMPUR: The scheduled cabinet meeting tomorrow indicates that Parliament is unlikely to be dissolved in the morning, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said today.

He said as far as he was concerned, the cabinet meeting would go on as usual and its members have been given a notice to attend.

"I am a cabinet member, there is a notice (for a cabinet meeting) tomorrow.

"Therefore, we, the cabinet members, will attend tomorrow's meeting and do our work as usual. So, if there is still a (cabinet) meeting tomorrow, that means Parliament has not been dissolved.

"And so, the question of whether Parliament will be dissolved should not arise because the cabinet meeting will proceed tomorrow," he said when asked if Parliament would be dissolved soon.

Earlier, he said the current concept of today's government was different from the previous Barisan Nasional-led administrations.

Since the present government was made up of various political coalitions, namely BN, Perikatan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would have to take into account the views of all cabinet members and not just those from his party.

Annuar said while Ismail Sabri is indeed a party man, he is also the prime minister for a government of a mixed coalition.

"I am sure the prime minister is a party man and he always listens to views made by the party (Umno). But the concept of the government now is different.

"Previously, one person is the prime minister and he is also the president (of Umno). So, he can make the decision himself. The decision was absolute.

"But now, we have BN, PN and GPS. Therefore, now, the decision is not absolute. So, let's give the prime minister some space.

"I am sure the prime minister respects the views of all cabinet members. And besides, the prime minister has the prerogative to make the decision (to advise the king on the dissolution of Parliament)," he said at a press conference at Parliament here today.

Earlier today, it was reported that PN ministers had sent a letter to Istana Negara, stating that they are against holding the 15th General Election this year.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said he was told that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had received the letter.
