Umno taking advantage of floods to win GE15, says Dr Mahathir

LANGKAWI: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today accused Umno of exploiting the people's predicaments during the monsoon season to win in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

The former prime minister reiterated his stand that Parliament should have not been dissolved to make way for GE15 during the monsoon season.

"We are now in the northeast monsoon transition, (many areas) are affected by the floods, strong winds and landslides.

"Many victims may be evacuated and if there is flooding on the polling day, they may not make it to the voting centres and this is what they (Umno) wish for," he told reporters after visiting flood evacuees at the Dewan Syifa Flood Relief Centres in Padang Matsirat here today.

Dr Mahathir claimed that Umno seemed to have purposely dissolved the Parliament during the monsoon season so that most voters would not be able to cast their vote in the GE15.

"Should there be floods, many people will not be able to cast their vote, only their supporters will go out to vote (because) they offer cash reward to the voters, so Umno will win.

"This is what Umno plans to do, buying the voters," he claimed.
