Zahid: No negotiating with Pas after GE15

BANDAR BAHARU: Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has slammed the door shut on any possibility of cooperating with Pas.

The Umno president said BN will not hold any negotiations with Pas on forming the federal government after the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said this was because Pas has been inconsistent in its stand.

"We are not going to negotiate after the polls. We are not being overconfident or cocky, but God willing, voters have come to realise (the empty promises made by the opposition) and will return their support to BN.

"If, once we form the new government, they (Pas) come to befriend us, we will tell them it is too late.

"We choose partners who are loyal. We do not make friends who flip-flop. We choose only those who remain loyal through thick and thin," Zahid said at BN's Solidarity, Stability and Prosperity gathering here today.

Present were Umno vice-president and caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Kedah BN chairman Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and other national and state BN leaders.

"These 'pak lebai' (Pas leaders)... in the afternoon they say one thing, in the evening they say something different.

"They are acting as if they are free from sin. Whenever there are changes to the political situation, they issue a new 'fatwa' to justify their actions.

"The truth is, the Quran has never changed. The hadith (Prophet's way of life) has never changed. (Pas) makes its own interpretations. Enough is enough. 'Pak lebai', repent immediately," he said.

Last week, the Pas central committee said it would focus on strengthening cooperation in Perikatan Nasional.

The decision spelt the end of Pas's political cooperation with Umno under Muafakat Nasional, an alliance established more than two years ago.
