BERA: Accusations and claims that Armed Forces personnel being paid RM300 for voting in the Bera parliamentary constituency are lies and a lame move to compromise the dignity of the personnel.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said such claim by Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was purposely meant to create a negative perception towards Barisan Nasional (BN).
Ismail Sabri added that Anwar must apologise to Armed Forces personnel for making such claims.
"It's a mean accusation and armed forces personnel should not be humiliated in such a way. In fact, he should retract such a statement because it is insulting to the armed forces personnel all across the country.
"There are no special privileges given for armed forces personnel to cast their votes, especially when it involves monetary incentives," he said after a meet-and-greet session with the Orang Asli villagers of Kampung Bongkok here today.
Anwar, who is also PKR president, recently claimed that there were Armed Forces personnel from the Bera parliamentary constituency who had been paid to vote in the 15th General Election.
He allegedly made the claim while speaking at a function in Terengganu.
Anwar, who is vying for the parliamentary constituency of Tambun in Perak, had urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter. As many as 113,000 Armed Forces personnel and their spouses would be taking part in early postal voting at 189 polling centres on Nov 15.
