GE15: PKR candidate with highest net assets says he wants to serve community

TANAH MERAH: Datuk Seri Mohd Supardi Md Noor who recently declared his total net asset of RM106.1 million, is planning to sell property shares in Papua New Guinea.

The 62-year-old PKR candidate for the Tanah Merah parliamentary seat said he has a lot of properties overseas, including more than 400 ha of land in Papua New Guinea worth millions of ringgit.

"I bought the land in 2015 after getting involved in an investment project with a friend. My shares in the project is about 20 per cent and the profit that I get is not cash but more to assets.

"My experiences of being a stock broker 20 years ago helped me a lot in making me what l am today.

"For me, my wealth is enough. This is not the reason I am contesting in the coming election. I want to serve the community, especially Tanah Merah folk.

"I am a local. I want to see people here living a better life. I want more development in town and if possible, an Islamic university being set up here after the election," he said.

Supardi, who is Kelantan PKR chairman, is among 80 PKR parliamentary candidates contesting in the 15th General Election (GE15) who logged a total of more than RM354 million in total net asset value.

The asset declarations, uploaded on the calonkeadilan.org website, include that of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Supardi was the candidate with the highest net asset when he declared a total net asset of RM106.1 million, higher than at least 40 candidates who submitted their documents on the website before him.

Supardi is from the corporate sector and held positions such as Yayasan Hijrah Selangor executive director in 2021, Tekun Nasional chairman in 2018 and Perbadanan Stadium Merdeka chairman from 1998 to 2000, among other posts.

On his campaign, he said he was confident of attracting first time voters.

"I will focus on people's welfare. I will ensure they will not be left aside and I will spend my money to help them. As a Muslim, l believe the more we give out money, the more God will reward us," he added.

Supardi is facing Bakri @Mohd Bakri Mustapaha (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Perikatan Nasional), Datuk Nik Sapeia Nik Yusof (independent), Mohd Nasir Abdullah (Gerakan Tanah Air).
