GE15: PN on track to form Federal govt, says Hadi

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has reiterated its confidence to garner 112 majority seats to form a federal government after the 15th General Election (GE15).

PN deputy chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the coalition was on the 'right track' and continued its efforts to ensure it could form the next federal government and appoint the nation's 10th prime minister.

Hadi also called on PN supporters to remain calm and positive in the coalition's leadership.

"Remain calm. We are working on it. We are still ahead (of forming the federal government).

"They plan, Allah (also) plans. We are on the right track. God willing, we are protected, the country is protected," he said in a Twitter statement.

Malaysia is facing a hung parliament after no coalition managed to secure a simple majority of 112 from 222 parliamentary seats to form the federal government after GE15.

PH won 82 seats, the largest number among all parties, which includes five seats won by Sarawak DAP and one by Muda.

PN was close behind at 73, including 22 seats won under the Pas banner. BN trailed with 30 seats. Meanwhile, GPS won 22 seats, GRS swept six and Warisan gained three.

The negotiations involving all main coalitions since last Sunday had failed to secure the support from Dewan Rakyat members to appoint the prime minister, consequently hitting a political snag after entering the fifth-day post GE15.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Rulers is holding a special meeting today at Istana Negara to discuss the ongoing formation of the new government.

The meeting is being convened for the rulers to come to a decision that would be in the interest of the people and the country.
