Jeffrey Kitingan hints at Sabah Star exiting PN

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) is hinting at the possibility of leaving the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

Its president, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, said his party, which is also part of Sabah-based Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), would support the unity government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"We were part of the political impasse. Now we are going with the solution (forming a unity government). I think it is good for stability.

"As for Star's relationship with Perikatan Nasional, we are in differing positions. I cannot speak for them, we (GRS) are in the unity government, they (PN) are not.

"It seems that we (Star) are no longer relevant, we (Star and PN) disagree on the unity government, they are not for it, we are for it, what does it mean?" he told the press after the tabling of the state's 2023 Budget at the Sabah state legislative assembly building here.

When asked about PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's response over GRS support towards the unity government, the deputy chief minister said his representative was in the meeting but said they were no longer relevant in the decision making.

"Time will tell, (if) we don't attend a few meetings, and that's it. But let things cool down then we will see," he added.
