GE15: PN won Malay support because other parties couldn't walk the talk, claims Sanusi

KUBANG PASU: Pas today brushed off allegations that Perikatan Nasional (PN) won Malay voter support in the 15th General Election (GE15) by exploiting racial and religious sentiments.

Instead, the party's national election machinery director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that Malays supported PN because they lost faith in opponent parties which failed to walk their talk.

"They preached one thing, but did something else. That is why people lost faith in the other parties and voted for PN.

"We (PN) held tight to the party struggles and offered something that the nation needed the most, which is a caring, clean and stable leadership. This is why the voters supported PN," he said after closing the Jelajah Kedah Sejahtera programme at Masjid Haji Ismail in Batu 18, here, today.

Sanusi, who is also Kedah menteri besar added that PN won the battle in 74 parliamentary seats in a fair contest without violating any laws and the constitution of political parties, as approved by the Registrar of Societies.

Hence, he expressed confidence that there was nothing about PN's campaign in GE15 which would warrant any party to dispute the Malay tsunami that landed PN the support it obtained during the polls.

"Pas is called Parti Islam Semalaysia. As such, we don't play up religious issues, instead we fight for the religion and that is in line with the party's name. As for Parti Amanah Negara, we are wondering: What they are fighting for? The same question can be posed to Barisan Nasional---what are they fighting for? They had attacked Pakatan Harapan and DAP, but ended up working together with them.

"To me, both BN and PH's struggles are gone. Only PN remains loyal to their true struggles, which have been spelled out in the party's constitution. There is nothing strange or worthy of argument there."

Sanusi was commenting on claims by Amanah vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Kedah Umno Information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin that PH's defeat in the Padang Serai parliamentary election on Wednesday was due to PN's exploiting racial and religious sentiments.

This, they claimed, had stoked fear among Malay voters and scared them away from voting for PH.

PN's victory in Padang Serai has extended its grip in Kedah, after it won 13 out of 15 parliamentary seats in Kedah during GE15.

PH was only left with one seat, Sungai Petani, after losing six other seats previously held by the party in in the aftermath of GE14.
