Anwar leaves Istana Negara

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's convoy was seen leaving the Istana Negara at 5.23pm, after an hour's audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Anwar took the opportunity to wind down the car window and wave at the media as the motorcade left the palace compound.

The meeting was for him to present the list of candidates for deputy ministerial posts to the King.

It was previously reported that at least 35 names, comprising elected representatives from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Parti Warisan had been submitted to Anwar for consideration for different deputy ministers' portfolios.

Later at 8.15pm, Anwar is scheduled to hold a press conference to announce the list of deputy ministers for his new cabinet.

This was to complete the federal administration following the appointments of 28 cabinet ministers who were sworn in on Dec 3.

Last Friday, Anwar announced his 28-member cabinet line-up.

It comprises two deputy prime ministers for the first time, namely, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

The cabinet comprises members from Pakatan Harapan (15 ministers) through PKR, DAP, Amanah, and Upko; BN (six) through Umno; Gabungan Parti Sarawak (five) through PBB, PRS, and PDP; and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (one) through Sabah Bersatu.

Religious Affairs Minister Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, however, is not a member of any political party.
