DAP confident Anwar will secure two-thirds majority in confidence vote

IPOH: DAP is confident that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament when he calls for a motion of confidence when Parliament reconvenes.

Its vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming said he hoped that the 222 members of parliament would support the motion which would be tabled on Dec 19.

"A motion of confidence is a part of the Westminster parliamentary system and I hope on Monday (Dec 19), all members of parliament will support this unity government which has been consented by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

"Our country needs political stability so the government can focus on improving the economy, developing the country, and ensuring the wellbeing of its citizens. I am confident that all principled members of parliament will support Anwar.

"I hope we can achieve a two-thirds majority and this will indicate that we have a strong and stable government to attract more investors and create more job opportunities," he said.

Nga who is also a Teluk Intan member of parliament and Kepayang assemblyman told reporters this after opening the Kepayang Service Centre in Jalan Teh Hawa here, today.

The newly-minted Local Government Development Minister also announced some good news to further develop the capital city of Perak, Ipoh.

Nga said that he had asked Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin to meet him at his office to further discuss what the people in Ipoh need to improve and develop the area.

"There is an acute shortage of parking in the Ipoh Old Town area and under this unity government, I have instructed the mayor to come out with a plan to build a multilevel parking system in the Ipoh Old Town area.

"Should this be successful, we will have 500 new parking spaces and solve this long-standing issue," he said.

Nga said he also pledged to improve the condition of one of the oldest low-cost flats and longest flats in South East Asia, which is Waller Court here.

"The flat is in dilapidated condition and most of the residents are senior citizens. I hope we can bring life to the flats which were built in 1962," he said.

He added that he would also upgrade the Pinji and Ipoh Markets which were in terrible condition and had a bad drainage system.

"Pinji Market was built in 1959 and the upgrading works cost between RM11 million and RM13 million. I personally visited Ipoh Market and it also requires upgrading work," he said.
