Hadi: Money given out during GE15 was charitable act by ordinary people

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said those caught on video handing out money to voters during the 15th general election (GE15) were ordinary people giving out charity and not bribing them.

He said there was nothing wrong with such act and no electoral laws had been broken.

He said this after attending the Semarak Gelombang Rakyat event with Perikatan Nasional (PN) Negeri Sembilan today.

Pas has previously come under fire after video clips of alleged party leaders handing out cash to voters went viral.

Several police reports over such videos have been lodged and various party leaders have since come up with explanations of what happened.

The Marang MP said according to electoral laws only candidates and their agents were not allowed to give any form of handouts.

He said there was a clear attempt by some quarters especially Umno Terengganu to challenge Pas' victory in Marang, Kuala Terengganu, and Kemaman by filing election petitions.

"This is all psychological war. We have done nothing wrong.

"If members of the public want to give charity, that's entirely up to them, what can we do," he said.

Earlier, touching on state elections in Pas-led states, Hadi said it has decided that elections in Kedah, Kelantan and Teregganu would be decided by the party leadership.

He said Pas top leadership would meet with Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders before deciding on the best dates for the states to hold polls.

Also present at the function were Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia information chief Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Perikatan Nasioal chairman Datuk Eddin Syazlee Sith and Negri Sembilan Pas commissioner Rafiei Mustapha.
