Shahril says no plan to appeal Umno suspension order

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, who was among four leaders suspended by the party for six years, said he was disappointed by the decision.

He said he never received any letter or asked to face the disciplinary board. He also wondered how the party leadership came to such decision.

"Apparently, this is all because I resigned from a party post.

"And because I told the Umno president to take responsibility for party's poor performance in the 15th General Election and for making a suggestion via video for them to bring change to the party, including setting up a research and development department.

"I'm not sure if anyone can accept these excuses as being reasonable.

"But I guess most of us can guess what is the actual reason, I think," he said in a video posted on his official Facebook page.

Shahril said some people asked him to appeal the decision but he felt there was no point to do so as the suspension was not done according to party procedures.

"Maybe they expect us to mellow down and follow their ways, but I'm sorry, I can't do that.

"It's not easy as this is the party I've been fighting for all along," he said, while thanking Umno members for their friendship and guidance.

Shahril said he is confident that the suspension will not dampen his spirit to fight for the wellbeing of the people, country and religion.

Yesterday, Umno suspended Shahril, Sembrong Umno division chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Tebrau Umno division chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang and Jempol Umno division chief Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Sharif for six years, for violating the party constitution during GE15.
