PH had 31per cent Malay support, not 19 per cent, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: At least 31 per cent of the votes received by Pakatan Harapan (PH) during the 15th General Election (GE15) were from the Malays, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said this was based on findings by a team of data scientists and dismissed claims that PH only received 19 per cent of Malay support.

"If we only received 19 per cent, we won't be getting as many seats as we did during GE15.

"Overall, we obtained 31 per cent of votes from the Malays… it is low in states like Kelantan and Terengganu, but the Malay support is more than 50 per cent in Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, and the highest in Kuala Lumpur," he said.

He said the same analysis also found that the total votes obtained through the parties within the unity government equalled to two-thirds of the more than 15 million votes recorded in the last polls.

"If we calculate all the votes (received by parties) in the unity government, including from components like PH, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and other parties that are with us, we have gained more than two-thirds of the votes in GE15.

"That means two-thirds of the members of Parliament (MP) representing two-thirds of the voters in GE15, we're confident that we can continue to steer this country as a strong team.

"We will use this chance to cleanse the country from any form of corruption and drive economic growth," he added.
