Umno election: Eyes on Kuala Kedah as Mashitah takes on Hasita

ALOR STAR: Former deputy minister Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim is taking on incumbent Noor Hasita Mat Isa in a straight fight for the Kuala Kedah Umno Wanita wing chief post in the party election tomorrow.

Mashitah was the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Kuala Kedah Parliamentary seat in the 15 General Election (GE15) held in November but lost to Perikatan Nasional candidate Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Sheikh Fakhrurazi in a five-cornered battle.

Previously, Mashitah had served as the Baling Umno division Wanita chief and was elected as the Baling Member of Parliament in the 2004 general election.

She was appointed as a Senator in 2008 and was subsequently made the deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department.

Hasita, who is also the state Wanita wing committee member, had defended her post in the party election held in 2016 and is seeking re-election for the Kuala Kedah division Wanita chief post.

The duo are among candidates in the race for the division Wanita wings chief post in the party election, to be held simultaneously nationwide tomorrow.

Meanwhile, state Umno Wanita chief Datuk Sharifah Maznah Syed Kassim has retained her Alor Star Wanita chief post unopposed.

In total, 49 candidates are in the running for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings chief posts in the party election in Kedah, with some incumbents in Kedah 15 divisions retaining their post unopposed.
