Rayer demands action against Wan Fayhsal for lodging police report against PM

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP's RSN Rayer today urged the Dewan Rakyat to take stern action against Machang member of parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal for lodging a police report against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In response to Wan Fayshal filing a police report demanding both Anwar and former finance minister Lim Guan Eng (Pakatan Harapan-Bagan) to be investigated over Al-Bukhary Foundation's tax exemption status, Rayer said the action was excessive and irrelevant.

"The prime minister had explained the matter in Parliament last week and no objections or questions were raised during the session by any of the MPs.

"However, Machang (Wan Fayhsal) lodged a police report two days later and stated that the prime minister had given a false statement in the House.

"The report, which gained wide media coverage, was extreme and outrageous behaviour, which needs to be seriously looked at by the House," he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said Wan Fayshal should have referred the matter to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee instead of lodging a police report.

Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Perikatan Nasional-Beluran) then requested Rayer to submit a written motion to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker on the matter.

Previously, Anwar during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, confirmed that Lim, as the then finance minister, did not revoke the tax exemption status accorded to the foundation as claimed by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin.

Last week, Wan Fahysal, representing Bersatu's Armada movement, filed a police report demanding both Anwar and Lim to be investigated.

He claimed that Anwar had misled the Dewan Rakyat by backing Lim, and had left out important details about the alleged revocation of the foundation's tax exemption status when Lim was finance minister in the then PH administration.

However, Lim said Anwar had told the truth when he said Finance Ministry records had shown that the former, as finance minister from May 2018 to February 2020, had not revoked Al-Bukhary Foundation's tax-exempt status.

Lim had also lodged a police report against Muhyiddin at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on March 22.
