It's the traditional method of door-to-door campaigning for PN's Pelangai hopeful 'Cikgu Kasim'

BENTONG: Kasim Samat, Perikatan Nasional's candidate for the Pelangai by-election, has adopted a traditional campaigning method, namely by going door-to-door to meet voters.

Kasim, better known as Cikgu Kasim, believes this approach would enable voters to know him better.

He said that previously, on the ground efforts campaigning largely depended on the party machinery such as Pas', but these mostly involved the distribution of mini posters.

With days to go until polling on Saturday, Kasim said his campaign has covered 90 per cent of the constituency, and is now in their second round of coverage.

"We're not doing these house-to-house visits on a large scale, we're keeping it personal.

"I find that by doing this, we are getting better results as we managed to build a better rapport with the people," he said.

Meanwhile, Arau member of parliament Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim, who is among the politicians helping Kasim on the campaign trail, said he isn't merely relying on groundwork alone.

"I'm also using social media to reach out to the people, particularly the younger voters in Pelangai.

"I'm certain that with this platform, I can entice the young voters who reside outside Pelangai to come home and vote this weekend. A change can happen if the voters come back to cast their votes," he said.

Shahidan said he also frequently conducts engagement sessions with the young voters.

"The onus is on the younger voters to want change. If they come back to vote, I predict a healthy voter turnout of more than 70 per cent," he said.
