Kemaman by-election: Tun M to join PN leaders in Dec 1 campaign finale

KEMAMAN: After attending the Pelangai state seat by-election campaign last month, former two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is scheduled to make his appearance at the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election next week.

Dr Mahathir, who was recently appointed as the unofficial advisor to the four Perikatan Nsional (PN) controlled states, is expected to join several PN big names during a "grand finale" programme on Dec 1.

Kemaman Pas deputy chief Hanafiah Mat said PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang will also be in Kemaman as part of the campaign series.

"All the PN leaders will be in Kemaman to assist. Tun (Dr Mahathir) is expected during the grand finale event which will be held on the eve of polling day.

"We plan to organise the grand finale event at the Padang Astaka Kemaman," he told reporters after accompanying Pas candidate Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar during his campaign rounds at a shopping complex here.

During the Pelangai by-election in Pahang, Dr Mahathir attended PN's "Ceramah Mega" on Oct 6 along with Muhyiddin, Hadi and PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, which served as the final ceramah just before polling day.

Meanwhile, Hanafiah who is the Chukai assemblyman, said as the campaign entered its fifth day yesterday, Ahmad Samsuri had already met some 80 percent of the election machinery in the constituency.

"Despite the rainy weather over the past few days, our election machinery has been spending long hours meeting voters on the ground and we expect the second week of the campaign to be more exciting," he said.

The Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election on Dec 2 is a straight fight between Ahmad Samsuri and former Chief of Defence Forces General (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who is fielded by Barisan Nasional.

The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election.
