Pas will remain as constructive opposition for the good of the people, says Pas veep

KOTA BARU: Pas today said the party is comfortable to remain as a constructive opposition in the government, for the good of the people.

"For the good of the people, it is better for Pas which is part of Perikatan Nasional (PN) to be a constructive opposition in the government," said Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah to the New Straits Times today.

He was asked about the remark made by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that Pas needed to change their attitude of entering into political "marriages of convenience".

Mohd Amar said Pas was also fed-up with BN.

"Pas is fed up with BN as the party is willing to sacrifice principles only because they want power," said the Panchor assemblyman.

Ahmad Zahid  today urged Pas to change its attitude of entering into political "marriages of convenience".

He said in the past, Pas dropped their political partners to go into new collaborations with other parties which have a stronger influence.

Zahid said Pas must change their ways before it decided to accept an invitation to work with the unity government, which includes BN.

"Pas should change their ways. If you enter into a political marriage up to five or six times, in the end, the party that you 'married' will also grow fed up with you.

"We have already worked with Pas. We also have Muafakat Nasional along with agreements and a 'bai'ah' (pledge of loyalty) .. but when they have a new political 'wife', they leave the old one.

They believe in a marriage of convenience similar to a contract marriage. If they like the other party, they would say it. If they do not, they'll throw the other party away," said Zahid, who is the deputy prime minister.
