SHAH ALAM: Newly-elected Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has brushed off attempts to compare the party's internal polls with Umno.
He insisted, during a ceramah at the party's 69th Muktamar, that the two political parties were different.
"We are not the same as Umno. We open our candidacy for every position, unlike Umno".
He said while Pas allowed every position to be contested, there were limited interest in the top five posts in the party.
Afnan urged against drawing parallels between Pas and Umno in any way.
Last month, Pas secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan was reported as saying that there have been no new nominations for the top five posts, and elections would only be held for its central committee.
He said Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were the only nominees for the top two posts while one of the four people nominated for the vice-presidency had withdrawn from the contest.
