Hadi to Pas leaders: 'Don't be a vengeful govt, be fair to all'

SHAH ALAM: Pas leaders have been reminded to exercise fairness and avoid engaging in politics driven by vengeance.

President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said leaders must always uphold justice and must not resort to exacting revenge against those who had been hostile against them in the past.

"We have been victims of persecution and it taught us a valuable lesson, so that we don't do the same when we become the government.

"Do not seek revenge and take it as a lesson in our struggle," he said in his winding up speech at the 69th Pas Muktamar here today.

This, Hadi said, must be proven in the four Pas-led states, namely, Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu.

On this year's muktamar theme 'fair caring and charitable' (adil, prihatin dan berkebajikan), Hadi suggested that it be also adopted in the administration of the states.

He however admitted that it would be a challenge for Pas administrations to accommodate all quarters, but they must strive to be fair to both groups that had voted for or against the party.

He also reminded delegates to be prepared for the next general election, while extending support to those who had been elected by the people.

"The party must assist the government. Don't be the 'opposition' when the party is already the ruling government.

"Don't sink our own ship. Instead of pointing out weaknesses, help address and solve them."

This, he said, applies to all party members, including Muslimat, the party women's wing that played a huge role in assisting the elected representatives from Pas.

Meanwhile, Hadi called on the government to take action against those who were challenging Islam, syariah law, and Malay rulers who are head of Islam in the country.

"This cannot go on, we must rise and fight. These are the real 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues that must not be challenged.

"We will take action against those challenging these matters; how we'll do it, wait and see."
