Ramkarpal to Perikatan MPs: Lodge reports over alleged claims of development project offer from govt [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The two Perikatan Nasional members of parliament who claimed that they were offered projects to declare their support for the unity government should lodge reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Deputy Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Ramkarpal Singh said should a report be lodged, further investigations will be carried out by the graftbusters.

"They (the MPs) should bring it to MACC for further action if they have the information (on the project). Further investigations will then be carried out, but the reports must first be filed by them," he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Ramkarpal said this in response to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked about the government's action on the claims made by Besut MP Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh and Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail on the projects offered to them.

Rayer, at the same time, also enquired about the government's continued silence on these allegations and suggested that such silence could lead to negative perceptions regarding the unity government's attempts to win the support of opposition MPs.

On Nov 3, both Che Mohamad and Ku Rahman had claimed they were offered projects in their respective parliamentary constituencies in return for their support for the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Che Mohamed had claimed he received an email from an individual known as Datuk Rizal Adham who offered the former to develop a 40-room hotel with a swimming pool as well as a grocery store in his parliamentary constituency.

Ku Rahman, meanwhile, claimed that he received a message via the WhatsApp messaging application from an individual who also offered him a hotel development project.

The claims, however, have been refuted by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who said it was not necessary for the government to resort to such actions as the support given towards Anwar by 149 MPs was strong enough.
