Ramkarpal's voluntary resignation to eliminate nepotism [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Paving the way for his elder brother, Gobind Singh Deo, Ramkarpal Singh's voluntary move shows DAP's dedication to eliminating nepotism within the party.

Party secretary-general Anthony Loke clarified that Ramkarpal's decision stems from a desire to avoid any conflict of interest and a recognition of his elder brother's capabilities.

"Despite Ramkarpal's substantial contributions and assistance in formulating legal reforms within his ministry, he willingly sacrifices his position to make way for his elder brother.

"This sacrifice in vacating the position also aims to dispel criticisms of nepotism within the DAP party," he said during a media briefing.

Gobind Singh Deo returns to the Malaysian federal government Cabinet as a full minister, while Ramkarpal Singh resigns from a deputy minister role after a one-year term.

The sons of the legendary politician Karpal Singh appear to be engaging in a revolving door, taking turns in assuming ministerial roles.

Loke also underscored Gobind's experience in holding the same portfolio in 2018, expressing the party's and the Prime Minister's hope that he will play a crucial role in propelling the country's digital development and growth.

Commenting on his role as the Digital Minister, Gobind emphasised that there won't be any power overlap with the Communication Ministry led by Fahmi Fadzil.

"When I held this ministry in 2018, the fields of communication and digital were consolidated, encompassing information, media, and digital aspects.

"However, we are all aware of the new challenges that need to be addressed and how they impact society. Digital transformation has changed the way we move, conduct business, and more.

"It is a wise decision to separate this ministry, and there will be no conflict with the communication ministry," he stated.

Last year, Gobind Singh Deo declined a cabinet role in the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as he wants to focus on his responsibilities in his parliamentary constituency.

In a Facebook post, the DAP deputy chairman said this in response to many people questioning why he was not included in Anwar's cabinet line-up.

On another development, Loke refuted the claim on DAP's perceived significant win in the government due to holding more seats.

He asserts that it is inaccurate because it only involves the addition of new seats for the party, a situation similar to other parties like Umno.

"It is not accurate to claim that we are the biggest winner. The reshuffle includes the addition of one seat for DAP and the removal of two.

"The same applies to Umno, and the prime minister has considered the cabinet's composition and the representation of each political party. It is a fair judgement."

He further underscored that the newly announced cabinet lineup today is in line with the unity government plan for a more streamlined group, despite the addition of the Federal Territories Ministry.

"Observing the cabinet's size, it remains consistent with past governmental practices and is even smaller than the previous administration. However, it still adheres to Malaysia's common practices.

"Yet, what truly matters is the delivery to the public and how effectively the cabinet can execute and fulfil policies. Regardless of government decisions, there will be both agreement and disagreement from the people. This is expected, but not every decision can appease everyone.

"The decision has been made; now, the focus should be on executing the responsibilities diligently. Ensure the country experiences economic improvement, optimal resource management, and an enhancement in the standard of living for the people."
