PM to opposition: Engage in civil discourse over MP allocations

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated his call for the opposition to engage in respectful discussions regarding the allocation of their members of parliament (MP).

"Discuss it nicely and do not be arrogant (Bincang dengan baik, jangan sombong)," he said, in a short reply to the reporters after the launch of Kolokium Madani Perkhidmatan Awam (Public Service Madani Colloquium) held today.

Anwar said this after he was asked to comment on Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who on Nov 6, said the conditions set on Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs on the allocations are akin to engaging in corrupt practices.

Shahidan, who is a former Federal Territories minister and Perlis menteri besar, said it also went against the government's anti-corruption stand.

Shahidan's accusation comes in the wake of two PN MPs, both from Bersatu, pledging their support for Anwar's government on similar grounds.
