Opposition MP alleges govt corruption in granting equal allocations to secure support

KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition member of parliament (MP) today has claimed that the government is engaging in corrupt practices by enticing opposition MPs to support the government through the granting of equal allocations.

Citing Standing Order 18(1), Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) said the matter must also be debated in the Dewan Rakyat as it involved public interest.

"There have been efforts to entice MPs from this side (the opposition bloc) to support the government by providing allocations. Isn't this bait by the government to pull (the support) those onto this side?

"This is also a corrupt practice, hence, I hope that the matter is discussed (in the House) as it involves the public's interest and the people want to know what is happening," he said in Dewan Rakyat, today.

However, Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor instructed Shahidan to submit a motion over the matter.

"I acknowledge (the matter) and I advise that a motion is submitted over the issue raised," said Ramli.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) during his debate session earlier also questioned the government's decision over the allocation given to Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman after declaring support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration.

He also claimed that Suhaili, during a TikTok live yesterday, had said that the allocation for Labuan constituency had been approved.

"I congratulate the Labuan MP who in his TikTok live yesterday mentioned that the allocation for his constituency had been approved. Hence, this means that he is given the allocation after supporting the prime minister.

"Does this mean that we need to declare our support first in order to receive the allocation? I think this is not in line with the democracy aspiration that we champion all this while," said Fadhli.

Earlier today, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration.

He is the fourth MP from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) who expressed support for Anwar on the basis of prioritising his constituents' well-being.

Previously, three Bersatu lawmakers, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Suhaili (Labuan) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) declared their support for the Madani government.
