Reasons given by two Kelantan MPs for supporting PM are weak excuses, says Pas veep

KOTA BARU: The reasons given by the two Kelantan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members of Parliament for switching their support to the prime minister and the unity government are merely weak excuses.

Pas vice president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said both the Gua Musang and Jeli MPs should not have said that the reason they decided to declare their support to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration was for the sake of their constituents.

"There is no justification because they are both under Pas and in Kelantan, the state government provides allocations to its assemblymen for development and welfare.

"So, for me the reason given is too weak an excuse," he said when handing over keys for houses to B40 families in Panchor.

Mohd Amar said he also believed the matter was planned by certain quarters.

"From the information that l've received, there was a plan organised by certain quarters to pressure and threaten the MPs, especially those from Perikatan Nasional, to give their support to the prime minister.

"This proves that the PM feels insecure in his position now. Although he has two thirds support in the Parliament, he still feels insecure," he added.

Asked whether Pas MPs had received offers or threatened to do the same, Mohd Amar said so far, he did not receive any information on the matter.

"Like the statement given by party's deputy president recently, Pas is confident that our MPs will remain loyal to the party.

"So far, l did not hear of anyone trying to attract them to join or give their support to the unity government," he added.

Mohd Amar was commenting on the two Kelantan MPs from Bersatu who have declared their support to the PM and the Madani government.

They were Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, who both cited their constituents as the reason for the decision.

It was reported today Bersatu would refer the two MPs to its disciplinary board.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said the board would convene soon to determine the punishment for Azizi and Zahari.
