Four Bersatu MPs who declared support to PM, remain as PN MPs, says Pas deputy president

KOTA BARU: The four members of Parliament (MP) from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) who have declared their support for the prime minister's administration will remain as Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs.

Pas vice president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said he also believed the four would remain loyal to the coalition.

"Although they have changed their seats in Parliament, l believe we still have hope from them. They will remain as MPs under PN although they have declared their support to the PM.

"We need to respect the decision made by other parties and God willing, all MPs from Pas will remain loyal to the party as the have already performed the oath of loyalty (bai'ah)," he said.

The Kubang Kerian MP said this at a gathering to express solidarity with Palestine and conduct a 'munajat' prayer to safeguard the Syariah Enactment held at Sultan Muhammad IV stadium here.

Tuan Ibrahim said the Federal government should not use allocations to pressure opposition MPs.

"For us, the government are pressuring MPs with allocations and this should not happen.

"I think the government should provide equal allocations to all MPs regardless of which party they are from," he added.

He said there was no need for Pas and PN to lodge a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding the issue as the commission was already aware about it.

"MACC needs to investigate this as there is a clear element of corruption involving in it.

"It is their responsibility to investigate and act on it," he added.

MACC recently said the commission  will soon summon the four Bersatu MPs who have pledged their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this was to probe allegations that they were given bribes to support the unity government.

A police report was lodged against the four MPs on Monday. Azam said the cops have referred the matter to MACC for further investigations since the report was more focused on elements of corruption.

The four Bersatu MPs who have stated their support for Anwar are Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.

They had said the move was for the sake of their constituents, denying that they had been bribed or threatened into declaring support for the prime minister.

Suhaili and Iskandar Dzulkarnain have since been suspended by the party for six and four years, respectively.

Two of the MPs confirmed receiving allocations from Putrajaya after expressing their support for Anwar.
