Adly Zahari: Amanah leaders are not selected based sentiment, but on performance, values

KUBANG PASU: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) leaders are not selected based on sentiment, but rather on one's performance and values brought into the party.

Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari the party's election model was designed to prevent the party from being dragged into politics of sentiment, like what happened in Pas.

"Based on our experience in Pas before, although the performance of our leaders were very good, at the end they were rejected just because of sentiment.

"Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and (the late) Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub were very active in mobilising the party (Pas), but due to sentiment they were rejected.

"We do not want that to happen in Amanah, hence we reject such sentiment. In Amanah we will elect the leadership based on performance and values that the leaders brought into the party throughout their tenure in leading Amanah," he told reporters when met at the Kubang Pasu Amanah division's delegates annual general meeting in Jitra today.

Present was state Amanah chairman Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh.

Adly, who is o Defence Deputy Minister, added that in Amanah, the leaders do not offer themselves to be appointed for any position, since the selection is done by the party's central committee.

"It depends on the 27 members of the central committee. Of course, anyone may voice their suggestions but as for now, the process to select the party's top five leaders is based on the consensus reached by the 27 central committee members. We have never voted to decide on that.

"This model was developed to allow all talents in Amanah to be fairly evaluated by our members and we wish to see all the best talents in Amanah being appointed into the national party leadership," he said.

Adly was commenting on the statement by another Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who said he is ready to shoulder bigger responsibilities in the party should he obtain the highest vote in the upcoming party election.

The former religious affairs minister under the previous Pakatan Harapan government in 2018, was reported to have said today that he is leaving it to the party's 27 central committee members to decide on the party's top five leadership based on consensus.

Adly added that personally, the issue does not arise as his focus now is to carry out his duty as the vice-president until the party's central leadership election next month.

"As for now, we support the leadership of the current Amanah president. In general, Amanah's strength is based on the consensus agreement in selecting the leadership.

"We have 27 members in the central committee, supported by the wings movement. Each of us have our of duty," he said.

Some 1,000 delegates from Amanah divisions nationwide will elect the 27 members of the party's central committee during its national convention in Selangor on Dec 24 and 25.

The central committee would then hold a meeting to decide the party's top five leaders.

The party's deputy president post fell vacant following Salahuddin's passing in July.

Besides Mujahid and Adly, the third Amanah vice-president is Datuk Mahfuz Omar, who is also Kedah Pakatan Harapan chief.
