Terengganu Umno welcomes Raja Mohamed Affandi as advisor after Kemaman by-election loss

KUALA TERENGGANU: Former Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the 2023 December by-election in Kemaman, General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor has been appointed as one of the four advisors to Terengganu Umno, yesterday.

Raja Mohamed Affandi, who was the former chief of Defence Forces lost the Kemaman seat in the December by-election to Pas candidate and Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Raja Mohamed Affandi lost with a majority of 37,220 votes, gaining only 27,778 votes compared to 64,998 votes gained by Ahmad Samsuri.

Three other advisors appointed were former Felda chairman Tan Sri Idris Jusoh and two former menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Said who is the Kemaman division chief, and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.

Ahmad Razif was also appointed as the chairman of the state economic bureau.

The appointment of the four advisors was announced by the party president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at a meeting at the World Trade Centre (WTC), yesterday and was confirmed by Umno Terengganu chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat.

Rozi also confirmed that the Marang division chief, Datuk Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku, has been appointed as the state deputy chairman.

At the same time, Besut division chief Datuk Muhammad Pehimi Yusof was appointed as the state secretary, while Setiu division chief Datuk Sabri Mohd Nor was appointed as the state treasurer.

Additionally, Kuala Terengganu division chief Datuk Mohd Sabri Alwi has been appointed Umno Terengganu information chief and Dungun division chief Datuk Din Adam, as strategic director.

Meanwhile, Rozi who is also the Terengganu division chief hopes that the direction of the party will bring about positive changes to Umno in the state.
