[Updated] Rafizi asked to clarify Padu registration issue at next Cabinet meeting, says PM

KUANTAN: Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has been asked to clarify the Central Database Hub (Padu) registration issue at the Cabinet meeting next week.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this followed concerns raised by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg about the system.

"Yesterday I had a discussion with the Premier of Sarawak and he voiced some concerns and raised some questions.

Accordingly, the Minister of Economy was asked to examine the issue and provide an explanation to the Cabinet," he said.

Anwar said this when asked to comment on the call by the Sarawak government to delay the registration and updating of information on Padu in the state.

The Prime Minister was met by reporters after a walkabout at the Mahkota Square Ramadan Bazaar here, today. Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was also present.

Earlier today, Rafizi said a meeting will be held next week between his ministry and the Sarawak government regarding the registration of Sarawakians in Padu.

This follows an order addressed to district and administrative officers in the state, against registering on Padu that has gone viral on social media.

Rafizi said the instruction (based on the memo) was meant for the district and administrative officers.

Meanwhile, commenting on the request for the government to provide special financial assistance to civil servants and pensioners in conjunction with Aidilfitri, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that an RM2,000 incentive for civil servants had recently been given.

"We just approved (an) RM2,000 (incentive), then in a few months (later) we will pass the remuneration scheme (Civil Service Remuneration System) to increase salaries, so we have to look at it in that context," he explained.

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) recently requested the government to continue the tradition of providing the Raya assistance, which had been implemented for the past 10 years.

Meanwhile, during the state-level Madani breaking of fast event here, Anwar said he wanted Muslims in the country not to treat Ramadan as any other month but as a special month for them to increase their acts of worship.

He said the Quran was revealed in Ramadan as guidance for humanity, adding that Muslims should understand, appreciate, and practice the teachings of the Holy Book in their daily lives.

"Meaning (during Ramadan) we must work more, our morals should be better, and we must ensure that our values are enhanced to increase our taqwa (piety).

"So, I hope that Ramadan will provide an opportunity for Muslims to set a good example, not shout at and be angry with people, punish, slander or insult others," he said.

Held at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Mosque in Indera Mahkota, the event was also attended by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
