Perak RKR vice chairman claims 3 opposition assemblymen support state govt

IPOH: At least three opposition state assemblymen have allegedly thrown their support for the state government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

This was revealed by Perak PKR vice chairman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad who claimed that two of the assemblymen in question had met him.

Muhamad Arafat said that the meeting with the opposition representatives took place here last month and this month.

"They want to help the people by strengthening the state government and supporting the state government's leadership.

"These assemblymen are still loyal to their respective parties and will not cross (sit in the government block) but rather support the leadership of the Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad," he told reporters.

The Hulu Kinta assemblyman said this in a press conference at the state Legislative Assembly Sitting in Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here, today.

Muhamad Arafat said the reason given by these opposition assemblymen was because they were confident in the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the federal level and Saarani at the state level.

He further explained that the opposition assemblymen were also happy to see political stability in Perak.

However, Muhamad Arafat refused to divulge the name of the said assemblymen.

Meanwhile, state opposition leader Razman Zakaria in a separate press conference denied the matter and considered Muhamad Arafat's statement as a provocation.

"We don't have any information (on the opposition assemblymen who support the government) and if there is anyone from the opposition who wants to support the government, it doesn't make any changes.

"We don't tolerate this kind of cheap political provocation, there is no interest for the country, we don't tolerate it. Let him name the accused and we on the opposition side are still strong," he said.

The Gunung Semanggol assemblyman said opposition assemblymen prioritised the people's issues because Perak has laws that control these assemblymen.
