Umno MPs and assemblymen stand firm in support of Anwar, unity govt

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will continue to strengthen and uphold the unity government.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement after the party's Supreme Council meeting tonight said all Umno members of parliament and assemblymen would continue to support the party's position to uphold the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister and the unity government.

This, he said, was in line with what had been decided by the Umno Supreme Council on Nov 22 last year, which was subsequently approved by the delegates during the Umno General Assembly held on Jan 14 this year.

In the statement, Asyraf Wajdi said Umno had agreed to organise the Unity Government Convention at the state level beginning next month.

He said the move was to further enhance the understanding and cooperation between the parties that make up the unity government.

Asyraf Wajdi added to ensure that the Malay agenda continued to be empowered, Umno would hold a special colloquium on Jan 6 in conjunction with the Bumiputera Economic Congress, where new economic directions and proposals for Malays in the country would be presented.
