Bersatu appoints lawyers to sue six MPs who pledged support for govt

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will take legal action against its members of parliament who have allegedly betrayed the party by declaring their support for the unity government.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin confirmed today that the party has appointed legal representation for the matter.

Hamzah did not elaborate on when the suit is expected to be submitted to court.

"Yes, we have appointed our lawyers for the purpose," the Opposition leader said after charing a meeting with heads of portfolios in Perikatan Nasional (PN) here today.

Hamzah, in a statement, had said that the matter was reached during a special meeting of the Bersatu Supreme Council held on Jan 29.

He added that the legal action was so the elected representatives would vacate their seats and that Bersatu was ready to face any by-elections in the future.
