Muhyiddin disregards claims of support shift, to focus on strengthening party

MUAR: Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has chosen to ignore Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal's claims that more opposition lawmakers will extend their support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pagoh MP said his current focus is on strengthening Bersatu, while noting that Syed Abu Hussin "can say whatever he wants."

Emphasising the need for party cohesion and adherence to its principles, Muhyiddin affirmed the party's commitment to fortifying its position.

"He (Syed Abu Hussin) was an irresponsible party member... What is important, we (Bersatu members) have to stay united and stick to our principles.

"We are also planning to introduce amendments to the party's constitution aimed at consolidating our stance." the Pagoh MP said at the constituency's Chinese New Year celebration in Bukit Pasir today.

Besides Syed Abu Hussin, five other MPs aligned with the Perikatan Nasional coalition, notably from Bersatu, have expressed their backing for Anwar's leadership.

These members include Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), and the latest addition, Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang).

Syed Abu Hussin had recently hinted at the possibility of 10 Bersatu MPs lending their support to Anwar.
