Platform to raise national issues, not a PN roadshow, says Muar MP [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The roadshow to explain national issues and voice the concerns of the people is not a Perikatan Nasional (PN) roadshow, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

In denying that it is not a PN roadshow, the Muar member of parliament said it was instead a "multi-party people's movement", and must include members of the civil society as well.

His comments come after reports that he would join a "Jelajah PN" roadshow, following the announcement by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last week.

"When we are fighting for the people, whether it's about fighting the normalisation of corruption, abuse of power, injustice through government or opposition allocations, oppression in opposition-held states, these matters transcend partisan politics, not solely concerning Muda (Malaysian United Democratic Alliance) or PN, nor the fate of Syed Saddiq or Muhyiddin Yassin.

"It involves a multi-party people's movement, including those from civil society, (and) the public must be involved as it is a national issue," he said in a press conference today.

Syed Saddiq however said he must first present and obtain permission from his party before participating in the roadshow.

"The suggestion is for us to use a neutral platform, where we can engage with people from all walks of life, regardless of their political affiliation."

PN intends to undertake a nationwide tour dubbed "Jelajah PN" to address current issues and soliciting public feedback.

At the PN MPs and Assemblymen Convention on Saturday, Muhyiddin said that the third force in the opposition bloc and Syed Saddiq would also participate in the tour.

Muda was quick to deny any involvement in the roadshow, issuing a statement on the same day.

Its secretary-general Amir Hadi said the decision had not been discussed at the party's executive council.
