Zahid to opposition: Focus on nation building, not overthrowing government [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi advises the opposition to redirect their efforts away from attempting to overthrow the government.

Rather than engaging in disruptive activities, he encourages them to play a role in the nation's recovery, underlining the challenges left behind by the previous administration that have led to a state of disrepair in the country.

Zahid said the opposition should stop wasting the rakyat's time and diverting their attention from the abundance of programmes the Madani government is implementing.

"I want to say to the opposition, enough with all these `moves' with whatever names, don't waste the rakyat's time and their attention from the programmes and projects by the Madani government.

"We have four years before the next general election, and in these four years, let's build our country, which has been damaged in one term after three different prime ministers have led the country which has bore no fruit for the rakyat at that time," he said to the media after the rural and regional development ministry mandate ceremony.

He was commenting about a recent revelation by the Community Communications Department (J-KOM) deputy director (community communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that opposition members of parliament, including some MPs linked to the government, were orchestrating a plot to bring down the unity government.

It was dubbed the "Dubai Move".

Zahid added that any decision must comply with the anti-party hopping act and require a significant decision from the party, not solely based on sworn statements.

He said he is confident that no "move" would happen anytime soon as he received the commitment from the Premier of Sarawak, who led GPS, adding that GRS in Sabah is also focusing on their state elections.

"In reality, the rakyat wants political stability to improve the economy and increase foreign domestic investments to reduce unemployment and have more job opportunities, not politicking.

"The time for politics is only during the elections," he said.
