Stop acting like a hero, Syed Saddiq told

KUALA LUMPUR: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman should stop acting like a hero, says Umno Youth deputy chief Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

The Johor youth, sports, entrepreneur development, and cooperatives committee chairman said the Muar member of parliament (MP) should not say that he was the "fighter", who fought for the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) project.

"This effort is driven by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and the Johor government.

"Every TMIYC project is close to Tunku Ismail as every ground breaking ceremony will be attended by him," he said, as quoted by "The Star".

This comes after Syed Saddiq posted on Facebook yesterday saying that he has been visiting the TMYIC project site in Muar every month.

Syed Saddiq said a gymnasium, a roof futsal court, two sepak takraw courts, an indoor netball and basketball courts and a synthetic football field were among the facilities available at the youth centre.

He said when he was appointed as an MP and youth and sports minister in 2018, he proposed to the ministry to build the facilities and that an allocation of RM25 million was approved for the project.

Hairi said the project TMIYC Johor Baru, which was the first to be completed, began operating in 2020.

He said, construction for the TMIYC Muar would be completed by next month, while construction for the TMYIC in Pasir Gudang would conclude by November.

He added that the TMYIC in Iskandar Puteri and Simpang Renggam were under construction.

Hairi said he and Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi were monitoring, visiting and examining the monthly reports of each TMIYC development.
