The Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation supports the police in their fight against illegal gambling and hopes all parties strive to make this effort successful.
Local authorities should monitor all premises in their area and stop those involved in illegal gambling.
Non-governmental organisations and the public should report illegal gambling activities to the authorities.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission can stop online gambling, which mostly uses servers in foreign countries.
I believe that the police’s decision to take action against gambling centres and syndicates, and those involved, will cripple such activities.
They should also work with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to take action against public servants who protect the illegal activities.
However, the drive against illegal gambling centres should be an ongoing campaign.
It is unfortunate if this war lasts only a few months.
It will raise doubt among the public about the sincerity of the authorities in addressing the problem.
At the same time, a half-hearted campaign will make gambling syndicates bolder and resurface.
Illegal gambling is a social problem that will only harm punters but also destroys families and communities.
Imagine the social problems that we would have to face if young people are addicted to illegal gambling.
