Look within ourselves for happiness

WE can’t control the things around us. We should react to situations with a positive attitude.

Focus and clear our heads. Don’t get ruffled by negative thoughts. After all, our goal is to seek happiness.

When I asked my friend what would be her greatest happiness, she said she wanted to travel the world solo.

Happiness means different things to different people. Some people equate happiness with money, academic and social status. My other half, on the other hand, said happiness is within us. I agree.

We should look into ourselves for happiness. How happy we are affects our success in life.

Many marriages break up and relationships turn sour because couples are not happy. Most people who are happy and thankful have a healthy and long life.

There are several ways to be happy, and many reasons to be happy.

First, we have to be true to ourselves. And, we have to treat ourselves before pleasing others.

The moment we start pleasing others at the expense of ourselves, we lose our happiness.

Next, learn to forgive others. Don’t bear grudges.

Personal vendetta brings friction and hatred towards each other.

Avoid toxic people. Some of them defy logic with their irrational behaviour.

Start engaging with positive people and eliminate the negative ones.

Allocate time for your loved ones and friends. Have a chat over a cup of tea.

Appreciate people and accept their flaws. In this digital era, people tend to interact more via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We need personal interaction.

Be connected to nature and value God’s creation. Gaze at the sky and take pleasure in your surroundings.

Make time to do things for the sake of enjoyment and be alive.

Mahatma Gandhi said: “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

In a nutshell, happiness starts with you.
